Pick With Austin takes part in the 2011 OUT OF THE DARKNESS Community Walk at Lake Pflugerville in Texas

November 12, 2011 - Lake Pflugerville (Pflugerville/Austin, Texas) - Pick With Austin, PWATexas.org, took part in the annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk for Suicide Prevention Awareness, organized and hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We brought forth a Team of our Pick With Austin supporters, including many teens, and walked the 3 mile course around the lake in memory of those who have lost their lives to suicide... but also to help drive community awareness and educate Suicide Prevention.

Pick With Austin operates various programs based upon Alan's Gift of Music to help educate teens about the dangers of depression and to try to prevent suicide and suicidal thoughts among teens and youth. We had a small booth/table at this event with our literature and free PREVENT SUICIDE wrist bands (we gave away 300 of these through out the day!) and also free Pick With Austin guitar picks. Our Tribute CD of music was available at the table as well.

As part of our ongoing tribute to Alan Carter Villaruz-Curley, we raffled off a free brand new acoustic guitar as well. There was no cost to take part, you just needed to either be a teen, or be someone who participated in the video production taking place at this event.
